Fissure sealants are a type of dental sealant used to protect the teeth against cavities. They are usually made of fluoride-containing materials and are applied to the teeth by a dentist. Sealants act as a barrier to food and bacteria, which can cause cavities. Contact our clinic today to see if fissure sealants are the right treatment option for you.

Fissure Sealants
Fissure Sealants are the best preventive measure against decay since fluoride was put into the water supply.
The grooves on the biting surfaces of most molar teeth are too deep and too narrow to be completely cleaned with a toothbrush. Fissure sealing is a preventive procedure that involves the placement of a dental resin in these deep grooves to prevent the accumulation of food and decay-causing bacteria.
Fissure sealants are great in that they require no drilling, are painless, and are less expensive than fillings. We usually recommend them in younger patients at risk of tooth decay.
Fissure sealants are usually placed by the Dental Hygienist or Dental Therapist as part of our preventative program.
