Dental Implants and Onlays
When more than half of a tooths biting surface is damaged, a dentist can use an inlay or onlay to restore a tooth back to function and health.
They can be made from either porcelain or gold and are bonded to the damaged area of a tooth. An inlay is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth, whereas an onlay extends over one or more of the cusps of the tooth. Traditionally, gold has been used for inlays and onlays. In recent years, with advanced technology, ceramic (or porcelain) has become the material of choice because of the natural appearance, strength and the ability to bond directly to the tooth using high strength resins or cements.
